I’m shocked to hear that Beach Beat has gone into administration. Life in the water is such a big part of being raised here on the Coast.
I spent so much time with friends as kids and teens at the Caloundra and Dicky Beach stores, Dicky beach was great for skate supplies being directly across from the skate park, frothing on surf movies at Caloundra in between surfs on the weekends. Like many others, some of the best childhood memories are in and around these stores.
Putting our dream boards on Lay Buy as kids, taking 6-9+ months to pay them off doing jobs for cash wherever we could, heading down after school to pay off $2-$5 every chance we got to get that bit closer to paying it off. After the nearly year wait of thinking of the board most days and finally paying it off riding down on the rusty old school bikes with mates and collecting was the best. Only problem one time after the year of paying off I had grown and the board was too small by the time I collected so then we’d trade it in for another😅
Beach Beat has been one of the iconic businesses here in Caloundra for the last 40 years and my complete childhood it is the only surf shop I could remember - it feels like its a business that should be there forever as it’s become part of the landscape at the bottom entrance to Main St over the years.
Nowadays, with Caloundra transforming into a large region with large corporate chains poping up everywhere, remember to continue to support local businesses - run by locals.
Thanks for the good times, great boards and memories with mates✌🏼
