A Shout Out to the WOOLLY BULLDOG FIBRE SHOP in Fort Langley!!!

https://thewoollybulldog.com/

Not being at all knowledgeable about knitting, crocheting, or any kind of needlework, I had to search for someone, somewhere, who could repair a mohair poncho I bought in France a few years ago — something I definitely was not prepared to part with.

If you haven’t stopped in to check out their store, pop by and say hi to Angel and learn what they’re all about. I know they’re not in the repair business, but they bent over backwards to help me, and I am absolutely thrilled with the kindness and service I received. And if I ever needed to buy any wool or related products, it would be the first place I would go!

Dan and I were heading to an appointment in Brookswood this morning, so we decided to stop for a coffee along the way.

If you haven’t been to McBurney Plaza recently, make a point of stopping by. It’s full of life, colour, and energy — the kind of place that makes it hard not to walk away with a smile on your face.

Love seeing these little pockets of Langley feeling so vibrant

Accessibility is often talked about in terms of ramps, doors, and buildings.

But one of the most powerful things about Rick Hansen’s vision is that it extends far beyond the built environment and into the outdoors.

Launched in May 2025 as part of the Rick Hansen Foundation’s Accessible Outdoors Program, Everyone Everywhere is a fully accessible, purpose-built boat designed to open up life on the water to more people. It is a shining example of what recreational inclusivity can look like when accessibility is built in from the start.

What makes this story even stronger is the support behind it.

The Petersen Family Foundation, a BC-based private foundation established by Ryan and Monica Petersen, focuses on accessibility, strengthening communities, environmental protection, and supporting youth. Those values come to life in a very real way through this project and the opportunities it creates for others.

This also connects in a meaningful way to the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society, a non-profit founded by Rick Hansen to monitor, study, and protect white sturgeon. Through conservation, education, and hands-on experiences on the river, this work helps people connect more deeply with the outdoors and with one of British Columbia’s most remarkable natural environments.

And that is really the point.

Accessibility is not just about entering a space. It is about fully participating in life. It is about being on the water, experiencing nature, and making sure people with disabilities can share in the outdoor lifestyle that means so much to so many of us in BC.

Rick’s love of the outdoors is obvious. Even more powerful is his belief that everyone should have the opportunity to experience it.

That is what real accessibility looks like.

Following up from our previous post on "ACCESSIBILITY", see below how Dan spent his day, last Saturday.

Four non-fishermen (Dan, Son, Grandson and a Friend) arrived at the Steveston docks to spend a day on the water with Rick Hansen.

A Canadian icon. A man who has met with world leaders and received just about every award and recognition imaginable.
Intimidating, you might think.

What we found instead, was an interesting, focused, and down-to-earth man, with an abiding passion for accessibility, and a deep commitment to improving life for people with disabilities. And perhaps most striking of all, as the Rick Hansen Foundation approaches its 40th anniversary, Rick still sees his greatest challenges — and greatest opportunities to make a difference — as still ahead.
That says a lot about the man. And a lot about the work still to be done.

Learn more about the Rick Hansen Foundation at rickhansen.com — and if you’re wondering what a boat, sturgeon fishing, and tagging have to do with accessibility, check back soon.
