Important updates to the Residential Tenancies Act are coming into effect this year! 🏠🗓️
These changes impact both landlords and tenants and include updates related to AC unit installations, rent arrears repayment agreements, notice periods, renovation polices, and owners personal possession requirements.
Effective July 1
- The landlord cannot deny installation of window or portable AC units, subject to safe and secure installation
- New form for rent arrears repayment agreement
- Max fine for offence under the RTA
Effective September 21
- 120 day notice to tenant for owners personal possession and non requirement to compensate tenant or offer another unit
- Updated policy for ending tenancy due to repairs or renovations
- N4 notice period reduced from 14 to 7 days
