A lovely example of historic plank and muntin in this Somerset hall house. These early partitions were commonly found in medieval and Tudor hall houses, formed from vertical timber boards (plank), set between posts (muntin). These screens often separated cross passages and service areas, and they serve as a reminder of pre-plastered domestic interiors.

In this property, the story goes further. A substantial timber bressummer beam is believed to have originated from Mulcheney Abbey, having been rehomed following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536. Repurposed into the fabric of this property, this beam carries a distinctive decorative timber motif - a tangible reminder of how high status ecclesiastical materials were often repurposed and given a new lease of life in post-medieval domestic buildings.
