Moving into a new rental is exciting, and it's easy to want to get straight into unpacking, but there's one step at the start that's worth taking your time over.

Before or on your move-in day, you'll receive a property condition report, which is a detailed record of what the home looks like at the start of your tenancy. Going through it carefully and letting us know about any existing damage within the timeframe given helps protect you and the owner when the tenancy comes to an end.

Take a slow walk through each room with the report in hand, grab a few photos of anything you notice and keep a copy somewhere safe. It only takes a little extra time at the start, and it can make things much smoother when it's time to move out.
