I had to crawl across what Iโm calling the โplank of deathโ to get to the other side. One wrong move, and I couldโve fallen 20 feet. Definitely not the most comfortable part of the job!
But Iโm glad I made it across, because I found a failed shower pan that could turn into an estimated $20,000 repair.
Hereโs why home inspections matter. A shower might look perfectly fine from the outside, but a failed shower pan can allow water to leak beneath it, potentially damaging the subfloor and surrounding materials.
The lesson? Donโt judge a house by what you can see. Some of the most expensive problems are hiding where youโd least expect them.
If youโre buying a home, make sure you get a professional home inspection before closing. Finding a problem early could save you thousands of dollars and a whole lot of stress.
