Five courses. Five chapters. One extraordinary woman.

Last night was so much more than dinner. It was an unforgettable journey through the life of my dear friend, Chef Mawa McQueen, a woman whose courage, resilience, determination, and extraordinary talent have made her such an inspiring force in our Aspen community.

Becoming Mawa: Stories from Mawa’s Kitchen beautifully wove together theater, storytelling, and cuisine, taking us from the Ivory Coast to France and ultimately to Aspen. Every course told a story. Every story revealed another layer of a remarkable woman who has built her life and success on perseverance, passion, and an unwavering belief in herself.

Brilliantly brought to life by the incredibly talented Asmeret Ghebremichael, this intimate production was moving, funny, inspiring, and deeply personal.

Congratulations to Mawa, Asmeret, Charly Jaffe, and the entire creative team for bringing such a beautiful vision to life.

And what made the evening even more special was knowing that it supported Theatre Aspen's mission of making arts education accessible to young people throughout our valley.

A beautiful reminder that food nourishes us, stories connect us, and the human spirit is capable of extraordinary things.
