Legacy at Herdon’s ribbon-cutting ceremony was a celebration of Atlanta history, progress and a legacy that continues to shape our city.

Alonzo Herndon’s story is deeply rooted in Atlanta. An entrepreneur, visionary and trailblazer, his impact helped shape this city, and now his name continues to live on through Legacy at Herndon Square.

Built on the site of the former Herndon Homes, this new mixed-income community brings 200 new homes to Atlanta’s Westside, including 170 affordable units and 30 market-rate homes.

As Atlanta continues to grow, so does our commitment to creating more affordable housing opportunities and moving closer to the city’s housing goals.

The skyline may change. The neighborhoods may evolve. But some legacies deserve to remain part of the story.

Welcome home to Legacy at Herndon Square. 💙

Home is a place that provides opportunity.

When Atlanta City Council Member Wayne Martin was growing up, his family experienced homelessness for several years. During that time, they became recipients of Atlanta Housing’s assistance, giving them the opportunity to move into a stable community with quality schools and a brighter future.

We asked Wayne: “What does home make possible for the people you serve?”

His answer is a powerful reminder that affordable housing is about far more than four walls, it’s about creating opportunities that can change the trajectory of a family’s life.

It’s also a reminder that you never know someone’s story. The faces of affordable housing don’t fit one stereotype. They can grow up to become your neighbor, your coworker, your teacher…or your City Council member.
