On Memorial Day more than 1,700 flags grace downtown Redmond and the highways leading to town. Redmond is officially, by designation of Congress, “Flag City USA.” The city has had major flag displays on patriotic holidays since 1991. Redmond citizens pay for the flags and individuals and groups volunteer to place, retrieve and fold the flags every holiday.
