You know that feeling when you walk into a friend's house and something's different, but you can't quite put your finger on what?

Chances are it wasn't a renovation. It was probably the lighting, the paint, or the couch finally facing the right way.

Big home projects get put off because they feel like too much. New kitchen, new floors, new everything...it's overwhelming, so nothing happens. But some of the biggest changes come from the smallest fixes.

With fall right around the corner, here's where we'd start, ranked from easiest to most involved:

1️⃣ Rearrange first. Pull the seating into a tighter conversation area, angle a chair toward the window. It costs nothing and changes how a whole room feels.

2️⃣ Small swaps. Textured pillows, a chunky blanket, warmer candles. Or go a little further: a new faucet, new house numbers.

3️⃣ Swap the lighting. Builder grade fixtures are usually the first thing to date a room. New pendants over the kitchen island can shift the whole mood.

4️⃣ Add trim. Even just around a window or as a chair rail. Instantly more finished.

5️⃣ A fresh coat of paint. One accent wall, a front door, or a mantle. Still the highest impact, lowest cost change you can make.
