Downtown Frisco is about to come alive for five straight nights, and the city is kicking things off with a free drone show over the Rail District. Starting Tuesday, Oct. 13, Frisco is celebrating the grand opening of its new 4th Street Plaza at 8802 4th Street and the five story parking garage with a full week of free entertainment, live music and family friendly activities. Tuesday's festivities begin with a 6 p.m. ribbon cutting, followed by live performances at 6:30 p.m., including Cherry Bomb, a Texas tribute band performing hits from female rock artists of the 1970s through the 1990s. The biggest moment of the night comes at 8 p.m., when a drone show lights up the sky above downtown Frisco. The celebration continues Wednesday with a family friendly improv performance, Thursday with Glow in the Dark Yoga and a live DJ, Friday with a free concert from the Patrick Casey Band and Saturday with hands-on art activities, live music and shopping throughout the Rail District. The new plaza and parking garage are part of Frisco's ongoing transformation of its historic downtown, giving residents more space to gather while making it easier to visit local businesses along Main Street. For longtime Frisco residents who remember when downtown was a much quieter stretch of small shops and restaurants, seeing the Rail District host five nights of entertainment represents a major change, and the real test will be how these new public spaces reshape downtown long after opening week ends.
