While accessing those funds may be relatively quick, an early withdrawal can come with taxes, possible penalties, and the bigger consideration of taking money away from your long-term retirement savings.

The good news is that your 401(k) may not be your only option. Depending on your situation, qualified buyers may have access to options such as FHA financing with as little as 3.5% down, along with down payment assistance programs.

Before making a decision, I always recommend looking at the full picture and talking with the appropriate financial and lending professionals. A home purchase is a big investment, and understanding your options can help you move forward with more confidence.
