Most people head to Gulf Shores thinking about one thing—the Gulf. 🌊 But just a short distance behind those white-sand beaches is another stretch of water that many visitors barely notice.

Little Lagoon.

Running roughly eight miles along the western side of Gulf Shores, this long, narrow lagoon is different from the Gulf sitting just beyond it. Its water is brackish, with freshwater mixing with saltwater that enters through Little Lagoon Pass.

That combination creates excellent habitat for fish.

Little Lagoon Pass is especially important. It provides the lagoon’s connection with the Gulf and is periodically dredged to help maintain that exchange of water.
