There's a process in your business right now that only one person truly understands.
It might be how billing actually gets reconciled. The real sequence of onboarding a new client. Which vendor to call when the usual one falls through. It runs smoothly, so no one thinks about it.
Until that person is out sick. Or on vacation. Or gone.
Then everyone discovers at once that the "process" was never written down. It lived in one person's judgment, built up over months, and it left when they did.
This is the quiet risk inside most growing businesses. Not a lack of talent — a lack of documentation. When critical knowledge exists in exactly one place, you don't have a system. You have a dependency you can't see until it breaks.
The fix isn't complicated, just rarely urgent enough to do. Ask the person who "just handles it" to write down how. Turn it into steps someone else could follow. Test it by having someone else actually run it.
A business runs on what it can repeat without you. Everything else is a story waiting to interrupt itself.
