Living outside a high-risk flood zone doesn’t mean living without flood risk.

In fact, nearly one-third of recent National Flood Insurance Program claims came from properties located outside high-risk flood areas.

Here are two important things Florida homeowners and buyers should know:

• Flood insurance may be available even when your lender doesn’t require it, and coverage for a lower-risk property may be more affordable than you expect.

• When purchasing a home with an existing flood insurance policy, it may be possible to transfer certain policies from the seller to the buyer. This could potentially save time or money, but the policy and eligibility should always be reviewed by a qualified insurance professional.

Insurance can have a meaningful impact on both affordability and peace of mind. That’s why I encourage my buyers to begin exploring their insurance options early, not just after they are under contract.
