At Outsource, we spend our days decoding the code, zoning, permits, and approvals that help keep NYC buildings compliant, functional, and contributing to the communities around them. If you catch yourself strolling Lower Manhattan, this one always warrants a second or third look... What is over 500 feet tall, has no windows, and holds a lot of mystery? Meet 33 Thomas Street, the windowless building in Lower Manhattan. Unlike a traditional office tower, 33 Thomas Street, also known as the AT&T Long Lines Building, was designed as a telecommunications facility for AT&T, with the intent to house massive equipment and infrastructure that New Yorkers relied on for telephone service. If you are the speculating type, a quick Google search will take you down a rabbit hole of theories and scenarios. For now, we will just admire this statuesque and fierce, yet surprisingly graceful, building designed by architect John Carl Warnecke and Associates.
