A fellow agent shared this stat map the other day. Honestly I don’t find it surprising, but it definitely acknowledges the growth that Des Moines has seen and will undoubtedly continue to see. Cost of living continues to pace 10% below the national average and home prices almost 30% below national average. This in combination with a low unemployment rate and competitive wages makes this a win for us and our city at the end of the day.

Home sales were up 20% from January. This in combination with low inventory levels makes for a very competitive buyers market. Despite this, experts are projecting home prices and interest rates to rise by the end of 2021, so it’s still an excellent time to buy. Find a realtor with an excellent offer strategy!

February Neighborhood Highlight: Drake.

All 892 square feet of The University Library Cafe was erected in 1922, but the establishment itself was founded in 1991 by a pharmacy graduate at Drake University. At the time, his father owned the pharmacy next door. Rather than follow in his dad’s footsteps, he decided to pivot away from the family business. The bar and restaurant sits within walking distance from Drake University, but The Library doesn’t just attract college students. Since it’s establishment it has become a neighborhood staple for families, working class, white collar, blue collar, “no collar” and everyone in between. The Library’s personality is immediately evident. A handful of tables and booths, a cozy bar, library themed decor and some of the most gregarious staff you’ll meet.

With over 40 rotating beers on tap, weekly food specials, their famous nachos and (in my humble opinion) the best Bloody Mary in town you won’t leave disappointed.

If you live in Iowa you understand the joy "patio season" brings. We look forward to this time of year more than any other. Add a global pandemic to the mix and outdoor space is at a premium. One way to combat the crowds? Make yourself your own little sanctuary... though you may have to escape to the mountains for this one.
