Disability awareness starts with challenging the assumptions we don’t even realise we hold.

Many people with disability live independent, fulfilling lives with the right support, opportunities and inclusive environments. Yet myths and misconceptions can still create barriers that are often harder to overcome than the disability itself.

Remember:

✓ Support should promote independence and choice
✓ Every person's experience is unique
✓ Inclusion begins with understanding and respect

Not necessarily.

One of the most common misconceptions about Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is that everyone living in SDA receives around-the-clock support.

The reality is that SDA and support services are different things.

Some people living in SDA may have drop-in supports, while others may have more intensive support arrangements. It all depends on the individual's circumstances, goals and support needs.

SDA is about providing a home designed to meet the needs of eligible NDIS participants, not automatically determining how much support they receive.

Understanding the difference helps participants, families and providers make more informed decisions about housing options.
