The interest rate hold streak continues.

The Bank of Canada just made it official: the key policy rate is staying at 2.25% for the fifth consecutive time. Governor Tiff Macklem and the team are essentially in a wait-and-see mode right now. The latest numbers show that our economic growth has slowed down, which normally screams for a rate cut to kickstart things. But with global oil price spikes and trade uncertainties keeping inflation hovering around that 3% mark, they’ve decided the safest bet for summer is to stand completely still.

If you have a variable mortgage, lines of credit, or money sitting in high-interest savings, your numbers aren’t shifting today. Everything is locked in place until at least the next announcement on July 15.
