Can we talk about how good Des Moines has it? �
Last night my wife and I caught Zach Top at the Casey’s Center. Fiddle, steel guitar, real-deal classic country, and man did he sound just like you hear him on the radio. 🤠🎙️📻
�Before the show we grabbed dinner and drinks at Buzzard Billy’s, and if you haven’t checked out their lower level yet... you’re missing out. Total hidden gem, food and drinks, plus a large casual seating area makes it the perfect spot to meet friends before the concert starts. 🍔🍻🌭

Des Moines keeps bringing in incredible shows, and the spots around them make the whole night. Already planning our next one!

A family of 7 got PCS orders to move here... from Alaska! They’d never even been to Iowa, let alone seen West Des Moines.

An Army veteran I’d worked with before told them to call me, so they did.

PCS orders, a hard timeline, and a family who didn’t know West Des Moines from Waukee from Urbandale.

The real challenge wasn’t finding a house. It was figuring out an entire new state fast enough to actually make an offer before the timeline ran out.

Then there’s the loan side. VA loans have their own rules, entitlement, funding fee, appraisal timing, and it takes someone who’s actually done enough of them to move fast when a PCS clock is ticking. I’ve worked with VA loans and relocating families enough to know the process well, and I genuinely love showing people what West Des Moines, Urbandale, and Clive actually offer.

Here’s where they landed: West Des Moines. A good neighborhood, close to shops and amenities, an easy drive to everything, and the right house to fit their family.

The part I didn’t see coming? They ended up just down the street from me. Their kids go to the same school as mine now. it’s been genuinely fun having them join the neighborhood.

Military families are relocating here more than people realize. A PCS move doesn’t have to mean starting blind. It just takes someone who actually knows the area and knows VA loans.

My top 5 coffee shops in the Des Moines metro.
(I said what I said. ☕)

1️⃣ Northern Vessel NORTHERN VESSEL | DES MOINES COFFEE (Keosauqua Way): best cold brew latte. The Oat Milk Cold Brew Latte comes in a 35oz bottle too.

2️⃣ Mars Cafe Mars Coffee (Drake neighborhood): top spot to run into someone you know. Order the Sputnik, made with honey, almond, and cinnamon.

3️⃣ Daisy Chain Coffee Daisy Chain (East Village): best quality brew. Owner Daniel Bosman uses honey from his own bees. Try the Miel, a honey and cinnamon latte.

4️⃣ Horizon Line Coffee Horizon Line Coffee (West End Artist District): jars to go. No paper or plastic cups here, everything comes in a reusable glass jar.

5️⃣ Scenic Route Bakery Scenic Route Bakery (East Village): good spot for meeting, and the pastries are great too. Lots of tables, and it has free Wi-Fi.

When I help someone find a home, I'm not just looking at square footage. I'm helping them find the neighborhood that fits their real life, weekends and coffee runs included.

Some people want to be a short walk from a favorite shop. Others want a quiet street and a short drive. Knowing where you love to spend a Saturday morning is a useful part of deciding where to live.
