Facts are important!

Yes, people bought homes when mortgage rates were 12%+. But that’s not the whole story.

In 1985, the average 30-year mortgage rate was about 12.4%—but the median home price was around $75,500, roughly 3.2x the median household income.

Today, rates are lower, but home prices have grown faster than incomes. Buying a home IS harder in some ways. Pretending otherwise doesn’t help anyone. But neither does telling an entire generation that homeownership is impossible. You may not need 20% down. You may qualify for a low-down-payment loan. Seller concessions, builder incentives and assistance programs may be available. And most importantly, your financial situation isn’t a national average.

Before social media convinces you that you’ll never own a home, let’s actually do the math.
