This one is pretty special.
What an incredible honour for our family to see Townsend Lane officially named after my grandparents, Harold and Lucy Townsend, recognizing the impact they had on Shelburne and the surrounding community.
They spent their lives working hard, raising a family, running their John Deere dealership for 36 years and giving back to the community and country they called home.
Both were WWII veterans, and that commitment to service continued back home through their involvement with the Dufferin County Historical Society, Shelburne Museum, Fall Fair and many other parts of the community. My grandfather Harold also served on Town Council, the Hospital Board and as Rotary President. He was instrumental in establishing Shelburne's first outdoor pool because he strongly believed every child should have the opportunity to learn how to swim.
Seeing their name now become a permanent part of Shelburne is something our family is incredibly proud of. I know they would be pretty humbled by it too.
