Door heights are one of those details that can be easy to overlook on a set of plans, but they make a noticeable difference once you’re standing in the space.
At Carbine, our standard is 8-foot doors throughout the home. Especially upstairs, that added height keeps the rooms feeling open and proportional rather than cutting the walls short with a standard 6-foot-8-inch door.
On this particular build, we were navigating a difficult construction season and focusing heavily on delivery schedules. Somewhere in that process, the upstairs openings were framed and drywalled for the wrong door height.
By the time we caught it, correcting it meant ordering new doors, reframing the openings, and replacing the drywall. It was an expensive fix, and it was one we absorbed, because the easier option wasn’t the right one.
That experience reinforced something we already knew: the details that seem small during construction often have the greatest impact on how a finished home feels. ✨
